I find their arrogance and ignorance most appalling. Tunnel vision activists are so very harmful. And I loved the older lady’s comment of “pray for them” as the punishment. Lovely.
I, personally, have never felt that abortion should be made illegal. For me personally, it is not an option. But as a caring, thinking and Grace-filled individual, I cannot be blind enough to believe that by making something illegal, it makes it go away, reduces the market for it, and/ or solves any of the prior issues that required the service. All that will result is women will be going to butchers, who will have no qualms in taking huge amounts of money to do bad, dangerous and too often deadly procedures with no follow through. If these people opposing this act think it should be illegal – (due to their feelings of murder of the fetus) yet cannot vocalize a punishment for it-; they should be made to consider if the act they are trying to make illegal justifies the death penalty- because that could be a real consequence.
Education, abortion alternatives, birth control and communication are the only ways to make abortion obsolete. There is truly no viable and safe option to remove it as an alternative, but there are intelligent ways to go about informing people (even on a secular level) of options and techniques (i.e.- abstinence for health) to lessen the need for it.
